This week I attended a local Meetup to photograph the night sky and the Milky Way. This event and type of photography requires dark skies that are located far away from Calgary’s light polluted night skies. ForgetMeNot pond is located in Alberta’s Kananaskis Country and it’s mountain isolation and distance from Calgary results in very dark skies at night. In addition to a fast wide angle lens, a sturdy tripod and a cable release for your camera, manual settings are required. Patience, (like all types of photography) will yield some rewards. Below is a image of the Milky Way including the galactic core. Notice the sky’s reflection in the pond during this 20 second exposure.
